Say hello to our Arts Council for the 2023/24 academic year
The Arts Council at Senacre Wood Primary School are responsible for helping to make decisions about how all of the arts subjects such as art, music, drama and dance are taught. They have previously:
- helped to organise competitions.
- Organised class votes to help make school decisions.
- Decorated musical instruments for our outside area.
- Discussed ways to improve our lessons.
- Made costumes and learnt a dance for a carnival.

International dot day
In Term 1, we decided to celebrate National Dot Day. This is based around the story, The Dot, by Peter H. Reynold and celebrates creativity and differences.
Arts Council met to discuss what to do for the day and agreed to create a whole school piece of art where every child and adult could draw a dot. Arts Council supervised this activity on both playgrounds at lunchtime.
shaun the sheep trail
We then got the opportunity to decorate a Shaun the Sheep for an exhibition of sculptures around the Maidstone area.
Bellway Homes sponsored us and our Arts Council organised a competition in school to design patterns which we could paint onto our sheep. They then judged the entries and agreed on two winners per class. These were shared in assembly and were painted onto our sheep to represent diversity in our school and local community.
secret artist
In January we played our game of Secret Artists. This is where adults bring in a piece of art and the children have to guess who our secret artists are.
Arts Council made a huge banner advertising this in December and the whole school got very excited as we play this game every year.
Children can also bring in work which is displayed in the corridors so also enter in the fun. The secret artists were revealed in assembly and everyone was really excited to see who had created each piece of work.
Arts Council have also been in charge of asking a questionnaire in their classes about their art lessons so that we can find out what's going well and what we'd like to improve. Come back soon to hear some of the results.
