At Senacre Wood Primary, we are very aware that some of our children may take on caring duties at home for other family members.
A young carer is someone aged 18, or under, who helps look after a relative who has a condition such as a disability, illness, mental health condition or a drug or alcohol problem. As part of this role, they do extra jobs in and around the home. For example: cooking, cleaning or helping someone get dressed and move around.
For more information please read our information poster about who young carers are and what they do.
Our staff are committed to meeting the needs of young carers so that they can attend and enjoy school in the same way as other pupils and achieve their potential.
Our school has a Designated Senior Leadership Young Carers Lead (Mrs E Baksh) and an Operational Young Carers School Lead (Clare Palmer) who have responsibility for young carers and their families.
To contact these members of staff please use the contact us link on this page.
Our school only shares information with professionals and agencies on a need to know basis in order to support pupils and their families.
For more information about our commitment, identifying young carers and school support for young carers, please see the attached document.
If the above points apply to you, ask to see Mrs Palmer.
If she is not available, write her a message and post it into the black post box outside of her office. As soon as she is back, she will be able to read your message and come and see you!
